Demodicosis in pets — is a skin disease caused by Demodex mites, also known as Demodex mites. These microscopic mites belong to the family Demodicidae and are most often found in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands of the skin of dogs and cats.
There are several species of demodeccus, but three are commonly associated with demodicosis in pets:
Weakness of the immune system. In animals with a weakened immune system, demodic mites may multiply due to the body's reduced ability to cope with infections.
Genetic factors. In some dog breeds, especially young dogs, demodicosis may have a genetic predisposition.
Stress and illness. Stress, illness or other factors that weaken the body may predispose to the development of demodicosis.
Diagnosis. The veterinarian uses a skin scraper to detect demodecid mites.
Treatment. Treatment depends on the form of demodicosis. This may include antiparasitic drugs, antiseptics, antibiotics and other medical measures.
Reduce stress. Reducing stress and supporting overall health are recommended.
Health monitoring. Regular visits to the veterinarian to monitor health status.
It is important to consult a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment, since demodicosis can have different forms and severity.
