Overview

A young breed of universal hunting dogs, which are ranked among the smallest representatives of the cops. The Lesser Münsterländer Hound or Klein Münsterländer is adapted for hunting on land and water. He is tireless and enduring, keeps close to the hunter, a delicate scent allows the dog to follow the blood trail. In the homeland of the breed, its representatives are called detectives. Such a helper is good with children and can be an obedient family dog.

Origin

The Lesser Münsterländer Hound comes from the northwest of Germany, where it was bred almost simultaneously with the larger variety of the breed. Despite the same name, external and service similarity, these dogs have a different pedigree. The Klein Münsterländer is a descendant of the Breton Spaniel, which was crossed with English and French Pointing Dogs. Compared to the Grosser Münsterländer, he gained great popularity, and the "small" breed owes its formation to Edmund Lance.

Appearance

A noble dog with a narrow muzzle, pointed floppy ears and a deep chest. She has a square body, a low set tail and a medium length wavy thick coat. Small Munsterländer are usually colored brown or liver-piebald, there are dogs with spots and specks on a white background. On the hind limbs, the hair forms feathers, and on the tail - a dewlap. In general, the appearance of this miniature dog combines the elegance of lines and a strong physique.

Character

This versatile hunter has the qualities of a pleasant family dog and a reliable watchdog. The Münsterländer has a cheerful nature and a playful disposition. As a rule, they are obedient and willingly take part in children's games. A friendly four-legged helper will bring you lined game or a fresh newspaper with the same diligence, but can be harsh towards strangers. Therefore, it is worth taking care of the proper upbringing of the Klein Munsterländer from childhood.

Health

Klein Münsterländer are characterized by good health, but they also have joint dysplasia. Representatives of this breed can be prone to inflammatory diseases of the ears. After all, their hanging shape prevents ventilation of the ear canal, and a large surface with elongated hair accumulates dirt and infections. After swimming the Münsterländer Hound or cleaning her ears at home with a damp cloth, make sure they stay dry.

Maintenance and care

This small dog can be kept in an urban environment, but it needs a lot of space when walking. To ensure the good mood and physical well-being of your pet, take care of active and long walks. Do not deprive the little Münsterländer of the joy of active outdoor play. Its wavy coat needs to be brushed twice a week, and its long ears need to be checked and cleaned regularly.

Training

Natives of the Münsterländer area (a small variety comes from Westphalia) are highly trainable and easy to train. It is important to establish the authority and leadership status of the owner from the very beginning in order to ensure the correct upbringing of the pet. Classes with this hunting breed should be carried out firmly and persistently. Do not be afraid to overload the small Münsterländer with physical exercises - he is tireless in movement. If you do not live by hunting - take care of another possibility of spending energy for your dog.
