Overview

The Australian Terrier will make a wonderful friend and companion for the whole family. Dogs of this breed are cheerful and friendly towards their owners. It is not possible to get bored with them, they will always find something to cheer you up. Suitable for active and mobile people. They are fearless and aggressive towards cats and other dogs, so they require increased attention on walks. They love to play and dig minks. They treat young children well, but demand that they be respected. Therefore, it is worth acquiring such a dog only when your children are already at a conscious age.

Origin

The Australian Terrier breed was bred at the beginning of the 19th century to hunt snakes and rodents, work on ranches and gold mines, that is, as a universal farm dog. This breed is descended from terriers imported from Northern England and Scotland, including the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Skye Terrier, and Yorkshire Terrier, as well as the Old Black and Tan Terrier and Scotch Terrier. The result is an Australian Terrier. The first breed club was founded in Australia in 1887. The breed was officially recognized by the Kennel Club of Great Britain in 1936, and in 1958 by the American Kennel Club.

Character

The Australian Terrier is a friendly and outgoing dog. She loves to please and enjoys human interaction. As a rule, such dogs are easy to train, unlike some terriers! The Australian Terrier is not aggressive, but will stand up for himself in conflict with another dog. This breed rarely gives voice. However, she will bark if she decides that circumstances warrant it.

Behavior

They may be small dogs, but they don't seem to know about it! These dogs have a bright personality and often make a lot of noise. They make great companions for people who love to explore, dig, think fast, and have a lot of fun. Despite their size, they need a lot of physical activity and stimulation. It is also necessary to provide an outlet for their need to tear, tear, drag and chew something. Despite careful training, they can get along with their own cats, but can be unfriendly towards other cats or small furry animals.

Health

The Australian Terrier is generally in good health. There are very few problems specific to this breed.

Physical exercise

You need about an hour of exercise per day, although the dog will be happy with more stress. After all, this is a working terrier, and also a companion! In addition to walking and playing, they enjoy speed exercises, following commands, and other dog sports.

Food

Dogs of decorative breeds have a fast metabolism. This means that they burn energy at a high rate. Since the volume of their stomach is very small, they must eat small portions, but often. Small breed foods are specially formulated to meet your dog's special needs for essential nutrients. At the same time, the products are crushed taking into account the small size of the dog's jaw, which, in turn, facilitates the process of chewing and improves digestion.

Hair care

A healthy Australian Terrier sheds very little hair. It protects the dog from adverse weather conditions and needs simple care. The length is approximately 6 cm. The undercoat is short and soft. The coat should be brushed and combed at least once a week, and the ears should be checked for hairs that can interfere with hearing. If necessary, the hairs should be plucked, not trimmed.
