The American Bully comes from the last decade of the last century. The personality of this intimidating athlete hides confidence, good nature and a rare but charming knack for getting into funny situations. Bully perfectly fits the description of "my affectionate and gentle beast": his loving and loyal attitude towards family members surprises even experienced dog breeders. At the same time, the animal is always ready to demonstrate power and remarkable strength - especially when it comes to protecting those who are dear to him. Do not get in the way of an angry dog: playing with fire will result in tragic consequences.
The USA is considered to be the birthplace of the American Bully. This is a young breed that arose no more than three decades ago as a result of crossing pit bull terriers and Staffordshire terriers.
The task that the breeders set for themselves was almost impossible. They were supposed to create a non-aggressive, friendly companion dog from the genes of two fighting, aggressive dogs, leaving an intimidating appearance, amazing muscle size, power. The first formation of the breed was recorded in American California and Virginia. It was from these areas that the new breed spread throughout America, Asia and Europe.
Some time later, breeders also used the genes of other breeds: French Bulldog, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, English Bulldog, Old English Bulldog.
The breed was officially recognized in the United States in 2004. At the international level, she was never recognized, even despite her popularity, which is constantly growing.
Although the Americans have a harsh, intimidating appearance, in fact they are cheerful dogs with a balanced psyche. They are easy to contact and friendly to others. Bullies are very happy to communicate and caress and with great pleasure will accept stroking and scratching, turning over on their back and closing their eyes.
Thanks to their sociability, they manage to get along in any team. It doesn't matter if it's a pack of dogs or a human family. They sensitively capture the mood in the house and, if necessary, are able to defuse a tense situation with a funny trick. Dogs are good with children, like to play active games with them and allow themselves to be squeezed without showing aggression or snapping. Americans have excellent contact with the whole family, but they consider only one person to be the owner, constantly trying to please him, showing affection and love. If the owner is not at home for a long time, the dogs experience stress. Therefore, you do not need to leave them alone for a long time. They need constant attention. For the role of an ideal bully guard, there is not enough natural aggression. But with the role of a protector, the dog will do just fine. If the owner or his family is in danger, he will defend himself without hesitation and will stand to the end. At the same time, the size of the opponent is not important for him.
American Bulls do not require complex care. The best place to keep is a private or country house, as this is a fairly active breed that needs a lot of space. Animals can also live in city apartments if they are walked daily for at least 2 hours and exercised for at least 1 hour. Pets have short hair, which must be combed out once a week with a massage brush for several minutes. During molting, this procedure is recommended to be carried out 2 times a week.
Bathing dogs is necessary as needed, but remember that frequent bath procedures are even harmful to them. On average, bathing is necessary once every 3 months using a special shampoo for short-haired breeds. Paws should be washed after every walk. The contaminated wool is wiped with a damp sponge. Nails are trimmed as needed. Paw pads should be inspected regularly for wounds, as dogs have a high pain threshold and tolerate injury well.
Despite the fact that the breed has a high level of intelligence and a great desire to please the owner, handling it is not so easy. Dogs need socialization from the first days of their appearance in a new home. You need to make friends with the pet and show that you are a leader. During training, you need to encourage your four-legged friend with treats, strokes behind the ear, and praise. Also, keep the sequence and constancy of classes.
Bully is a relatively young breed, so all breed diseases have not yet been identified. For timely detection of possible health problems, it is recommended to undergo a full examination in a veterinary clinic once every 6 months. In general, dogs have strong immunity, but are prone to such diseases:
Regular vaccinations and parasite treatments will help your pet stay healthy for as long as possible.
